Day 01 (Wednesday): Delhi - Jaipur (DELHI (Reporting time 1600 hours. Dep. 18.30 hours))

In the evening board Palace on Wheels at Safdarjung railway station. Full details and timings of excursions will be available in your cabin but a summary is listed in this itinerary.

The Palace on Wheels consists of 20 coaches including 14 air-conditioned sleepers, two restaurant cars and a lounge and bar. Each sleeper has four compartments with en suite facilities and twin lower beds. The train is very traditionally decorated. Your personal attendant or ‘Khidmatgar’ is available at all times.

Dining is in one of the two restaurant cars, the Maharaja and Maharini, serving a variety of cuisine including Indian, international and Chinese. There is a comfortable lounge car, a well stocked bar and library available for relaxation.

Day 02 (Thursday): Jaipur - Jaisalmer (JAIPUR (Arrival 02.00 hrs. Departure 19.30 hrs))

The first stop of Palace on Wheels is Jaipur, one of the most well planned cities of the world of its time. This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City, was founded by Maharaja Swai Jai Singh II, in1727 A.D.

After breakfast on board, served in the lounge area of your sleeper each day, sightseeing begins at 0900. Sightseeing includes the Palace of Winds, a stone facade with an immense number of finely sculptured lattice panels. Continue to the Amber Fort, which we visit on the backs of elephants or by Jeeps. Lunch is taken at a Five Star Hotel. You will be taken to a government emporium with fixed prices for Shopping.

Day 03 (Friday): Jaisalmer - Jodhpur ( JAISALMER (Arrival 08.15 hrs. Departure 23.00 hrs.)

In the heart of the Thar Desert lies Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal, in 1156A.D. Here the yellow sandstone fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently over the city. Discover the painstakingly latticed havelis or mansions with their grand

facades. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the stone carver’s skill.

After breakfast we set off to see Jaisalmer, a fairytale walled town in the Thar Desert. Visit the fortified town with its fine stone carvings and narrow streets before returning to the train for lunch. In the late afternoon a camel ride is included in the desert and is followed by dinner and entertainment outside in the Hotel Fort Rajwada Hotel..

Day 04 ( Saturday) : Jodhpur to Sawai Madhopur (JODHPUR (Arrival 07.00 hrs. Departure 15.30 hrs)

Next morning the Palace on wheels is in Jodhpur, a city ringed by a high stonewalls with seven gates and several bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort.

The grand palaces within- Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Near the fort complex lies Jaswant Thada, and a group of royal cenotaphs made of white marble.

Your morning is spent touring the town and seeing the high walls of the massive Mehrangarh Fort and Palace with its fine sandstone carvings. Lunch is taken in the beautiful Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel, originally the Royal Palace of the Maharajas of Jodhpur. You also see Jaswant Thada Fort, a white marble memorial.

Day 05 (Sunday): Sawai Madhopur to Chittaurgarh (Sawai Madhopur (Arrival 04.00 hrs. Departure 10.30 hrs)

One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the Palace on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur, a city named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I.

An early start today as you go in search of game on an early morning drive and with luck, you may see tiger in their natural surroundings as well as many other animals. After the game drive you rejoin the train. Upon return to the Palace on Wheels, you leave for Chittaurgarh, when one gets an opportunity to watch the colourful countryside passing by in the daylight.

Chittaurgarh (Arrival 16.00 hrs) After lunch on board you are in Chittaurgarh. Images of love and valour; scars of battles lost and won….thrice-beseiged, Chittaurgarh Fort is all this and more.

Day 06 (Monday): Chittaurgarh – Udaipur - Bharatpur Udaipur Arrival at 07:30 hrs. Departure 20.00 hrs)

After Breakfast you will be transferred by coach to Udaipur, a journey of about two hours. Arrive in Udaipur, the Lake City. It was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar, after the Sisodia dynasty was driven away by the Mughals, in 1559A.D.

Perhaps the two most beautiful sites of Udaipur are the dream-like marble Palaces-the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichhola.

After a brief sightseeing tour you will be taken to the water for a boat trip on the Lake Pichola and lunch at hotel. On return, you tour the Palace of the Maharani of Udaipur, where you will see the Hall of Mirrors, Roof Garden Pond and Peacock Court.

Return to board the Palace on Wheels. The train then departs for Bharatpur. Overnight on board train.

Day 07 (Tuesday): Bharatpur – Agra – Delhi Bharatpur (Arrival 06.30 hrs. Departure 11.45 hrs)

Early next morning, the Palace arrives in Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. After breakfast pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place of thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other species of birds.

After breakfast, you will proceed for sightseeing tour visiting Marshes of Bharatpur bird sanctuary by cycle rickshaw.

After the sightseeing tour, you will continue your journey to Agra en-route visiting Fatehpur Sikri.

Agra (Arrival 13.00 hrs Departure 20.00 hrs)

Agra in terms of ambiance is still associated with its Mughal period. The Mughals besides being great rulers were also great builders and they preserved their best architectural wonders for Agra & its neighbourhood.

After lunch at 05 Star Hotel you will proceed for the sightseeing tour visiting the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A pristine monument of undying love. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Following which you will visit the impressive Red Fort.

Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewelry.
